What have I gotten myself into?

It started innocently enough. I just wanted to get into running so I had a way to get out and exercise when I was travelling. Little did I know that running would be the gateway drug…

I started in 2010 by running a local 5k. That 5k led to a half marathon that fall. Naturally, the half marathon led to trying for a marathon in 2011. While training for the marathon, I thought I would be smart and hire a coach. During our first session together, I innocently mentioned that I was looking to get a road bike so I could also being riding more. She casually asked me what my swimming background was and I, being the naive newbiew, answered “pretty good, I was a simmer through high school.”

Her eyes twinkled. Uh oh. Little did I know what kind of trouble I was in

Before I knew it I found myself at the start of the 2012 season recovering from an achilles injury and working with a coach who had triathlon in her blood. From there it was “all downhill” as they like to say.

My 2012 season was a whirlwind of 4 triathlon, 2 half marathons and my first marathon.

It has been a crazy, whirlwind season and it’s not over yet. Training has it’s few days where I am superwoman and, more often, the “this freaking blows”days.

What keeps me going is my internal drive and desire to make each day better than the best and continue to provide to myself that I CAN do this.
